A village dating back to the 12th century built on the Via della Spina, an important route between the Adriatic and the Tyrrhenian since Roman times.
In the XIV century the Trinci, lords of Foligno, built fortifications there and a fortress that overlooked the town and of which ruins and a tower remain. The village is criss-crossed by various water streams coming from six springs that flow into the Menotre river, in particular that of Capovena which is located in the upper part of the town at the foot of the Trinci palace; these springs made the fortune of the village that became known for its mills and for the processing of wool, activities that continued over the centuries and up to recent times. Despite the modernization of many of the buildings and the reconstructions following earthquakes, the village retains its recognisable medieval structure, defined by the course of the waters and their exploitation as a source of power, characteristics that make it unique. It is still possible to visit some of the mills and wool mills, whose ancient equipment has been largely preserved.
